E-mail Jack Vosper - Hoofdpersoon: Stephan Sturkop en aanverwanten. … Nico Roeg. He started writing stories soon after leaving school, went through National Service in the Army, including at least one parachute drop, entered the film industry and rose through the ranks to win fame as a successful lighting camera-man, in films such as ' Fahrenreit 100', ' Far from the Madding Crowd' etc, until he co-directed the film, 'Performance' and directed 'Walkabout', with his son Lucien and Jenny Agutter, as the two children lost the Australian out-back. I have been trying to ascertain - so far without much success - the best Directory to confirm what I have already written, including of course films he directed to win fame, notably ' Don't Look Now'. Before he became a director I think he married, , the charming film actress, Susan Stephen and had four sons. The marriage was devolved and he married the American, Teresa Russell, who starred in a number of films which he directed, without achieving the world-wide success of ' Don't Look Now'. They had two sons. I am keeping to Italics as the following is based on my memory and requires checking. English members of the Roeg family were well represented at the first night of 'Don't Look Now' which had an enthusiastic reception. It was followed by ' The man who came to Earth', in which the pop star David Bowie played the leading part. Later, Teresa Russell appeared as Marilyn Monroe at the time she was married to the baseball player, Joe Dimaggio and then with Art Garfunkle in 'Bad Timimg' and other films. From two visits to Libraries I have heard that there is in the US a book on Nico's films and over here a Directory called One hundred Directors which I will try to locate. My efforts to contact the Roegs have been thwarted as they are ex-Directory .I know Nico's phone number but he took no action when I suggested he might send a goodwill message to the meeting at Arlington and I would rather speak to Luca or Steff first if you could let me have their E-mail address or phone numberand postal address if you have them. I was surprised to read that your family is only very remotely related to the Roegs. I think you may have heard that I had a memorable visit to the Brahms-straat in Amsterdam during the first weeks of peace in 1945 when my host was Doctor Steff ( or Stephen) Sturkop, son, surely of my great-aunt Anna, who I had assumed had married a Sturkop. With the other officer and driver I took with me, my cousin Annie Reinders gave us a splendid tour of Amsterdam including a house my grand-father had lived in and the famous street which Annie assured us was for some reason very popular with English sailors.
